Wörthersee 2018

Wörthersee 2018: My first trip to the heart of the Volkswagen scene

Introduction

My first trip to Wörthersee in 2018 was a turning point. Not only did I fulfill my dream of visiting the epicenter of Volkswagen culture, but I also understood how vast our world is when you dare to step outside your comfort zone. It was a unique adventure that opened me up to meeting people, putting faces to people I'd only ever seen online, and discovering cars and custom builds I'd never seen in Spain.
That trip changed me. And here begins my story.

A Golf MK1 GTI ready to cross Europe

Wörthersee 2018 started months earlier, in the garage. If I wanted to make the trip with my Golf MK1 GTI , I had to get it perfect:

  • Cylinder head overhauled

  • New fuel pump

  • Brakes renewed

  • Wheels and bearings replaced

  • New spark plugs and complete maintenance

Each adjustment was a mixture of excitement and responsibility.
The days leading up to it were pure nerves, but also pure excitement.

The route
I wasn't alone. Thanks to Wally, Isra, Axel, Dani, and Jesús, the experience was incredible from the very first kilometer: laughter, photos, impromptu stops, and the feeling of fulfilling a shared dream.

The anecdote
What still surprises me today is that the MK1 didn't have a single problem . Not one.
Not in ports, not on highways, not during long hours of travel. A gem.

First impressions

Arriving at Wörthersee was like entering another world.
The setting is spectacular: towering mountains, endless forests, and a lake that changes color with the light. It's a place that captivates you even before you see the first car.

The energy of the place, the people from different countries, the mix of VW culture with nature…
Suddenly, you were inside a postcard you'd been seeing in photos for years.

The cars that blew my mind

The first thing that struck me was the level .
Immaculate cars, meticulous attention to detail, brutal OEM+ setups… each unit looked like it came from a rolling museum.

Elegant and clean swaps
1.8T, ABF, VR6… rare combinations and perfect finishes.
Each engine bay looked like a work of art.

Tires that were jewels
Restored classic models, rarities that were impossible to see in Spain at that time, configurations that made you rethink your own projects.

But what impressed me most was the people. There was passion, respect for the cars.

What this trip taught me and how it changed my path

Wörthersee gave me peace, harmony, and incredible motivation.
It was like putting my head in order.

It made me see my own cars in a different way, it inspired me to keep growing and, in fact, when I returned home I ended up buying more projects: the Caddy and the Jetta .

That trip was also the push I needed to give VWHEELSWAP a real structure, to start creating content, telling stories, and sharing this culture with more intention.

He taught me that I am part of something bigger:
a community that truly lives this passion.

Wörthersee 2018 was just the first step.
A journey that changed me and continues to shape my path today.
