What is VWHEELSWAP?
VWHEELSWAP is a community and project dedicated to preserving and experiencing the culture of the Volkswagen Golf and its variants, especially the first, second, and third generation models (Mk1, Mk2, Mk3). Here, restoration, customization, travel, documentation, and a very particular way of understanding these cars come together: more than just machines, they are experiences and a lifestyle.
Who's behind it?
My name is Marcelo Torrente. I'm a Volkswagen enthusiast, content creator, and collector. I've spent over fifteen years restoring these cars, enjoying them, traveling with them, and sharing my experiences in the VW world.
When did it all begin?
My father planted the seed of car enthusiasts, although it really all started in 2009 with the purchase of a wrecked Golf Mk2 16V. I repaired it, got it back on the road, and discovered how much fun it was.
But the definitive leap came a few years later, around 2014, with the purchase of a Golf GTI Mk1. That's where the fever started: I sold the Mk2 and since then I've focused all my energy on MK1s.
Where did this passion lead me?
The first big trip was to Austria, to the legendary Wörthersee in 2018, with the newly tuned Mk1 GTI.
From there the collection grew: a Caddy Mk1, a Jetta coupé Mk1 and a Scirocco Mk1 arrived, and with them new routes, events, meetings and experiences throughout Europe.
Why does this website exist?
I created this website to share everything I do related to VW culture: my projects, my travels, my participation in events, and the evolution of each car in the collection.
I want this space to be a meeting point for those who feel the same way: a community where you can be inspired, learn, connect and enjoy these models that unite us.
