Krasi and his Caddy Mk1
When an idea crosses borders and becomes a life project
There are cars that are bought.
And there are others who find you when you don't even know you're looking for them.
Krasi had always had a soft spot for pickup trucks. Not the typical large American ones, but that more compact and functional concept that blends car, tool, and freedom. For years he followed advertisements in Bulgaria, looking without much hope… until one day a Caddy Mk1 appeared that, unbeknownst to him, was going to change everything.
The car looked good. Without thinking twice, she called her father and asked him to come see it the next day. The video call was enough: a few minutes were all it took to decide that this Caddy had to be hers.
The problem was that he couldn't go after her yet.
For a year and a half, the Caddy sat waiting in her parents' garden. Until the moment arrived. Plane ticket, flight to Bulgaria, and a plan as simple as it was risky: drive back without knowing the car's mechanical condition after so long .
That's how the adventure began.

A sound foundation, but with another destination in mind
The Caddy was in good overall condition. According to the seller, it belonged to a friend with whom he had restored two at the same time: an orange one and this blue one. The blue one was intended for his son, but when he gave it to him, the boy wanted nothing to do with it and it ended up being put up for sale.
The car had a very rugged, off-road pickup look: raised suspension, a robust appearance, and a rear bed completely lined with aluminum sheeting. It was fitted with Audi A3 8L seats, a bit too big for the overall setup, but surprisingly perfect for the more than 3,000 km return trip .
It was a good foundation. But Krasi was clear about it from the start: it wasn't the end, just the beginning .

Enjoy it first, transform it later
The first stage was simple and necessary.
White Ronal Turbo wheels, yellow headlights, and suspension. That's how it stayed for about a year, used, traveled with, and attended car shows. Learning about the car and confirming something important: the idea I had in my head was correct.
The goal was clear from the start: to give it an authentic American look , well-executed and meaningful. I knew it wouldn't be easy. Acquiring parts, adapting them, and doing it all coherently was going to require time, contacts, and many hours. But as is often the case with vwheelswap, where there's a will, there's a way .
Friends, new contacts, and pieces that gradually appeared. The second phase was no longer aesthetic: it was a complete transformation.
Mechanics made to be used, not to be looked at
The heart of the project became a 1.9 TDI engine , with all the installation custom-made. It featured a handcrafted stainless steel exhaust, rear disc brakes, oversized front brakes, a hydraulic clutch, an electronic accelerator pedal, intercooler piping, and larger radiators.

Everything was designed for reliability, practical use, and a clean, uncluttered look. The engine bay was meticulously crafted to achieve a clean and organized appearance, free of unnecessary elements.
The suspension was also completely redesigned:
Threaded suspension, control arms, wishbones, stabilizer bars, reinforcements, and a painted rear axle without silent blocks. New handcrafted brake line. A solid and well-made foundation.
American identity down to the last detail
Externally, that's where the Caddy finishes telling her story.
Adapted Westmoreland Deluxe front end, square headlights, position lights on the fenders, wide aluminum American bumpers, small folding windows and an extremely rare Junk visor, specific to Rabbit Sport Truck.
And as a key piece, the jewel in the crown :
The Hard Top in the American version, imported directly from the USA. A detail that completely changes the silhouette and elevates the outfit to another level.

The interior was equally impressive. It features a second-generation Westmoreland American interior, complete with a dashboard, instrumentation, buttons, panels, and handles in the American version, all in blue to match the bodywork.

More than a car, a feeling
Driving this Caddy isn't just about performance.
Krasi sums it up easily: happiness.
It's the feeling of seeing something that sat for years on four jack stands come back to life. Of having built it with your own hands, of having watched it grow and take you places. For him, getting into this Caddy is like getting into his humble supercar .

An anecdote that says it all
Between trips and gatherings there are many memories, but one sums up the spirit of the car well.
Once, the police stopped her. It wasn't for anything bad. They simply wanted to see her, chat for a while, and learn about the project. To top it all off, one of the officers confessed to owning a Mitsubishi Evo.
Cars that connect people. The uniform doesn't matter.

vwheelswap isn't just about cars
Krasi's Caddy is exactly that:
A project crafted with time, care, and passion. A car that has crossed borders, racked up miles, and created memories. Like the ones we share every time we drive together.
Because in the end, this isn't just about cars .
It's about travel, friends, and stories that deserve to be told.
